The Regulation enters into force, 20 days after publication in the Official Journal.

Prohibitions & AI literacy apply
Chapters I and II become applicable: prohibited AI practices (Art. 5) and AI literacy obligations (Art. 4).
2025-08-02
GPAI, governance & penalties apply
Rules on general-purpose AI models, notified bodies, governance and penalties become applicable.
2026-08-02
Main obligations apply
The bulk of the Regulation, including most high-risk AI system obligations (Annex III), becomes applicable.
2027-08-02
High-risk products (Annex I) apply
Obligations for high-risk AI systems that are safety components of products under Annex I harmonisation legislation become applicable.
